My husband and I moved to Florida in 2014 and settled in a 55 and over community. Fortunately, this community has over 6,000 homes and has lots of activities to choose from. One of the first classes I signed up for was Glass Arts, which included a Basic Stained Glass Class and a Basic Fusing Glass Class. Although I haven’t done much with Stained Glass, I have thoroughly enjoyed fusing glass. I made about 50 pieces my first year. Guess what all my children got for Christmas presents that first year!
Today, I am still having a great time playing with glass. I am fortunate to have a fully stocked Glass Arts Studio in one of our community clubhouses, as well as a very understanding husband who has allowed me to turn one bay of our garage into a home Glass Arts Studio.
One day a week, I volunteer at our community Glass Arts Studio to provide assistance and knowledge to aspiring glass artists. Over the past several years, I have also taught Basic Fusing Glass classes. I love to see my students come to class unsure about working with glass, and leave class with enthusiasm and lots of ideas about what they want to make next. I have been fortunate to have students that truly have flourished with their art. In class, it is impossible for me to tone down my excitement and enthusiasm for this art medium.
I have won a few awards from my glass pieces, but for me, it’s not about the recognition, I’m just having fun.
I still make glass for my family and friends.
